Felix Da Housecat x Lil Jon

^ Easily my favourite WMC 2009 moment: Lil Jon went up to to Felix Da Housecat to request Is It All Over My Face (we're talking Florida Room 6:30AM on the Sunday of conference) and the rest was history. Sorry it took a hundred months to tell you about it.

Lil Jon got on the mic talking about, "...if you were a real House motherfucker, you went to the thrift store to get your baggy jeans, wore hard bottom shoes, bought some baby powder and headed to that warehouse party with no liquor license to dance to Loose Joints...". Like everyone there I was blown away!

It was magic.

Felix could not believe it. He got all misty eyed talking about how he had no idea Lil Jon was up on dance classics, and that he must have been born in Chicago. Lil Jon was just like "...ah man, it's just all about good music..." Everyone was like !?!??!?!?!?!?!!!!!

Amazing.

They picked tunes together til 8am - all classics - and talked about each one. Loose Joints got played about 10 times ha.

More tunes played:

Anyway, ya. It was unreal. Ask Jemz or Hoff about it.

Plus to call it a night Felix ended with this - which is brilliant btw.

Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence (Francois K's Hands & Feet Mix)

Enjoy.

Life, Life, Life

Some more Canadian content - an M1 aka Matteo DiMarr release also on Toronto label DNH - but this one's probably unknown to you. For a simple house tune Life, Life, Life has a great pop sensibility and catchy vocoder vocal that always had someone running over to the booth, with a far away look and a spring in their step. Me too.

"...this is the time of your life..."

A secret tune and personal favourite. Graciously sent over by Matt himself - cheers mate.

Life, Life, Life

Finally

Before this blew up I remember Trevor Walker (the dude!) was there, caning this off the 3LP triple pack at Jai Bar (the spot!) and wondering aloud why this song wasn't 15 minutes long. There's a million mixes but that OG version - from It's In The Lifestyle - is all you need.

Seriously one of the best ever tunes.

Finally

Deep Burnt

All time classic tune that no one seems to know the name of or who it's by for that matter, only that it has the same sample used by A Tribe Called Quest. Pepe Bradock here flipping the Freddie Hubbard song initially touched on The Love.

Probably number one in a lot of people's books. No argument from me there.

For the Lovelife crew in Providence.

Enjoy.

Sound familiar? Cajmere strikes again.

Shout out to Nadastrom.

Domina

I'm not a crazy Carl Craig fan either (double sorry). I can't just co-sign on everything he does - or any of the Detroit Techno legends for that matter.

When he hits the nail on the head though - like he does on this 10 minute re-arrangement (Were you talking? Sorry, I wasn't listening - Domina is still playing) there's no denying it.

Go Bang #5

I have to admit I'm not an obsessed Arthur Russell fan - sorry. (The Wild Combination documentary was excellent though and comes highly recommended.)

It's no wonder not too too many of his songs were completed. The - for lack of a better term -adverse elements used are put together in a way that I don't think people were thinking about or thought possible musically. Go Bang #5 is a great example of that - just listen. Kind of a one man puzzle that he wasn't always able to figure out.

When it does come together though, there's nothing really like it.

Sublime.

The Nervous Track

All time all time classic tune. 1993 release from Kenny Dope & Little Louie Vega as Nu Yorican Soul (do your research!). First MAW entry on EVD; as with all great producers many more to come.

The focal point for a lot of ideas up til that point, and for a lot of movements that came after. Understand?

The Nervous Track (Ballsy Mix)

Enjoy.

Mine To Give

Legendary producer Photek jumped the D&B ship pretty early, considering this release came out in 2000. A lot of people hated, and house cats weren't initially that welcoming, but yo this cut with Robert Owens is crazy.

Real music wins out in the end.

Mine To Give

Enjoy.
